On 28 July 1993, during the 28th Jalsa Salana of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, UK, a unique historic event took place, when 204,308 new Ahmadi Muslims, from 84 countries and 115 nations of the world, took the pledge of allegiance at the hands of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (rh) via live satellite transmission.
This pledge tradition continues yearly with the number of new Ahmadis almost doubling. The Bai’at is performed in the following manner: Hazrat Khalifatul Masih (aa) stretches out his right hand; persons sitting immediately close to him put their hands under his sacred hand while others put their hands on the shoulders of these persons to make a continuous link with Huzoor (aa). Everyone in the assembly puts his hands on the backs of others, thereby the entire gathering is connected with each other leading up to Huzoor (aa). Huzoor (aa) recites a portion of the words of Bai’at in English, the audience repeats these words and Hazrat Khalifatul Masih (aa) pauses so the portion is translated into various languages. When the whole text of the Bai’at is completed, Huzoor (aa) recites the istighfar and other prayers. In the end, everybody prostrates before Allah as a gesture of thankfulness, along with Huzoor (aa).
