Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad (ra) established Lajna Imaillah on the proposal of his second wife, Amatul Hayi (ra) who also became its first secretary. After Hazrat Amatul Hayi (ra), this important service was entrusted to his other wife, Hazrat Sara Begum (ra) and then, to Hazrat Syeda Umme-Tahir (ra).

When the launch of this organisation was brought into effect, members of Lajna Imaillah humbly requested Hazrat Nusrat Jehan Begum (ra) to accept the presidency. The first gathering most probably occurred under her presidency. However, having seated Hazrat Umm-e-Nasir (ra) in her position at the very first gathering, she nominated her as president. Thus, till her demise on 31 July 1958, Hazrat Umm-e-Nasir (ra) carried out this responsibility in an outstanding manner.
