Sultan Fateh Ali Sahab Tipu was a brave Muslim ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore based in South India. He was born on 20 November 1750. His coronation was held on 29 December 1782. He was killed by the British on 4 May 1799 while defending his capital at Seringapatam.

Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad (ra), during his Friday Sermon of 21 March 1958, narrated:

“Once a dog came in front of our door, and I was standing there. Hazrat Sahib [Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as)] was inside the room. I pointed towards the dog and said ‘Tipu, Tipu, Tipu’. Hazrat Sahib (as) came out with great anger and said, ‘Don’t you care, that the British have named their dogs Tipu after a truthful Muslim because of [their] enmity [towards him], and you are imitating them by calling the dog Tipu. Be careful, never do this again.’

“I was probably eight or nine years old at that time. It was the first day that the love of Sultan Tipu got established in my heart and I understood that the sacrifice of Sultan Tipu was not in vain. God Almighty has blessed his name so much that the ma’mur of the Latter Days valued him and had ghairat for him.” (Al Fazl, 1 April 1958, p. 3, and Khutbat-e-Mahmud, Vol. 39, p. 52)
