Dr Mirza Yaqub Baig, aged 19, was during his second year in medical when Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), the Promised Messiah visited Lahore. A fellow student, Abdul Hakeem of the third year, informed him regarding the stay of the Promised Messiah (as). They went to meet him together. After meeting him face to face, he became convinced regarding the truthfulness of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as). He took the pledge the same night on 5 February 1892 and is numbered 320 in the list of original pledge takers.

He refused to take the pledge after the passing of the first Khalifah, thereby joining the non-initiates. Dr Mirza Yaqub Baig passed away on 12 February 1936.
