Hazrat Jalal-ud-Din Shams (ra) in the introduction to this book says:
“Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) was prompted to write this book on account of vicious and provocative interruption of Aryas of Qadian on the occasion of annual Jalsa of 1906.”
Repeated contention by Lalah Sharampat Ra’i and others that they had never seen any heavenly sign of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) disappointed him. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) mentioned a number of heavenly signs of which these Aryas of Qadian were a witness and they intentionally denied that they are a witness. The people of the Aryah Samaj had been, from the very beginning, against Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as). They had always been engaged in all sorts of plots to curb, in their own mind, the growth of this Movement. These activities of the Aryah Samaj reached their height in 1905-1906. They set up a school called Dyanand Jubilee School as a parallel institution to “Talim-ul-Islam Madrasah” and also founded a journal in Qadian under the name of Shubh Chintak. Somraj was its editor and the prime object of this journal was to publish all filthy and vulgar attacks against Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as). To crown all these efforts, on December 27, 1906, when over two thousand Ahmadis had arrived in Qadian for taking part in the annual gathering and were offering the Maghrib prayer led by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), the Aryah Samaj opened up a loudspeaker blaring at the Masjid Aqsa and started making highly obscene and vulgar attacks against Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) and the Holy Prophet (sa). All this had happened in the presence of a Police Inspector, who had come from Batala for the maintenance of peace. When Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) finished the Maghrib prayer, he urged upon his followers to exercise restraint and show patience. He said that God watches all this, and the oppressor will be punished. The next day the Aryah Samaj organ Shubh Chintak made a violent attack on Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) and stated that none of the Aryah Samajists named by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) had witnessed anything.
The Book
Such an attack by Aryah Samaj was against the facts. So, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) decided to reply back. He started writing a book which was published on February 20, 1907. In this book, he recalled some of the signs which were within the knowledge of Lala Sharampat Ra’i and others, and Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) swearing by God challenged them they should take an oath and swear by God that they had not been the witnesses to these signs and if they were telling lies then God would punish them and their children within one-year time. If they did not take the prescribed oath and made an attempt to cover up the truth, even then it was his hope that God would not spare them, for it was not the Promised Messiah’s insult but His. On the publication of this book, the manager of the journal, Achar Chand, during a course of discussion with the editor of al-Hakam, Hazrat Sheikh Yaqub Ali, claimed, “Like Mirza Sahib, I also declare that I would not die of plague." One simply just has to witness the Divine spectacle, that all the staff of Shubh Chintak soon became victims of plague. First, the sons of Somraj and Bhagat Ram died of the plague, then Bhagat and Achar Chand. Somraj approached a local Hakim for medical treatment. He, in turn, sought the permission of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) to treat him. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) permitted him to do so but then added that he would not escape the Divine punishment and the latter joined others the next day.
The book, among others, also recalled the prophecy about Pandit Lekh Ram, how and in what miraculous way it reached its fulfilment. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) also informed the Aryah Samaj of Qadian about their tragic end.
