It was the year 1915, when a righteous person from Freetown, Sierra Leone Pa Musa K. Gerber started correspondence with Ahmadiyya Headquarter in Qadian (India) and in 1916 joined the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at. Thus, he became the first Sierra Leonean to Join Islam Ahmadiyyat. On the command of Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad Khalifa tul Masih II (ra) Maulvi Abdur Rahim Nayyar (a) (a companion of the Promised Messiah, (as)) was the first Ahmadiyya Missionary who visited this country in 1921. The foundation which was laid by this companion of the Promised Messiah (as) was later raised by Hakim Fazzl-ur-Rahman Sahib and became a complete strong building by the hands of Alhaj Maulvi Nazir Ahmad Ali. May Allah reward them all.
Acknowledging the efforts of Ahmadiyya Jama'at in Sierra Leone in 2014 the Government of Sierra Leone awarded the Jama'at with Presidential Gold Medal Award.
At the same occasion, two other Ahmadi brothers received Presidential Award:
- Professor Abu Sesay the vice-chancellor and principal of the Njala University Sierra Leone who was given a first-class Award COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF REPUBLIC (CRSL).
- Paramount Chief Muhammad Banya and Member of Parliament was also given Presidential Award MEMBER OF THE ROKEL. This is indeed a great manifestation of Allah's favours and indication of the prominence gained by the Jama'at in Sierra Leone.
And in 2021 on the completion of 100 years of Jama'at in Sierra Leone the Government conferred the Jama'at with the highest civilian award the Commander of the Order of the Rakel.
More than 1,500 mosques all over the country are a testimony that how Jama'at is trying to establish the oneness of true creator in the hearts of the people and are training them morally and spiritually.
We have 15 regional headquarters in Sierra Leone and a total of 135 local & Regional Mission houses.
We are publishing a quarterly magazine "The African Crescent" in Sierra Leone.

JALSA SALANA SIERRA LEONE
By the grace of Allah Ahmdiyya Muslim Jama'at Sierra Leone holds its Jalsa Salana every year. A new era of mighty Jalsa salana began in 2005 when the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone participated in our Jalsa with his ministers. This continued and by the grace of Allah now our Jalsa is a National event of Sierra Leone. Every year the President, Vice President, Ministers and hundreds of Paramount chiefs participate in our Jalsa and the attendance of Jalsa is reaching approximately 23,000.
JALSA SALANA UK
On 21st July 2006 His Excellency Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabba the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone met Huzoor e Anwar (aa) at Bait ul Futuh Mosque London. He offered Friday prayer behind Huzroor e Anwar (aa) had lunch with him.
In 2015 His Excellency Victor Bockarie Foh the Vice President of the republic of Sierra Leone participated in Ja Isa Salana UK with good number of ministers and other dignitaries.
Alhamdolillah, every year a big delegation from Sierra Leone participates in Ja Isa Salana UK. Many Ministers, Members of Parliament, Dignitaries and Paramount Chiefs are part of this delegation.
His Excellency Dr. Earnst Bai Koroma former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone talked to Huzoor e Anwar (aa) via phone many times on the occasion of Jalsa Salana UK. He wished Huzoor e Anwar (aa) well for the success of the Jalsa Salana and also requested Huzoor e Anwar (aa) for special prayers for Sierra Leone and its people.
