There were many in Mauritius who had immigrated from India. When they heard about Islam Ahmadiyyat, they expressed their wish that a missionary be sent there. Therefore, Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad (ra), Khalifatul Masih II, chose Hafiz Sufi Ghulam Muhammad B.A. He went to Mauritius in February 1915. At first, he stayed for three months in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), and spread the message of Ahmadiyyat.

Upon reaching Mauritius, Sufi Ghulam Muhammad had great success, and many people accepted Ahmadiyyat. Hafiz Sufi Ghulam Muhammad returned from Mauritius after 12 years. In 1917, another missionary, Hafiz Obaidullah was sent to Mauritius, for assisting Sufi Ghulam Muhammad. Hafiz Obaidullah passed away in December 1923, while fulfilling his responsibilities in Mauritius.

In 1927, Hazrat Hafiz Jamal Ahmad (ra) was instructed to go to Mauritius as a missionary. He left Bombay (now Mumbai) on 17 July 1928 and reached Mauritius after travelling for 10 continuous days.

In Mauritius, he performed great and important services in the field of preaching and moral training of the Jamaat.

He passed away on 27 December 1949 and was buried there. On his demise, Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad (ra), Khalifatul Masih II, said about Mauritius:

“Blessed is that land where one as supremely resolute and pious as he is buried.”
