Ludhiana is a city and is the capital city of Ludhiana district, in the Indian state of Punjab. Ludhiana is Punjab's largest city and the largest city situated north of Delhi.
Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) set off for Ludhiana on 3 March 1891. He stayed at the residence of Shahzada Ghulam Haider, which is located in Iqbal Ganj, Ludhiana. While residing in Ludhiana, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) published an announcement for those who were keen to take the bai‘at (pledge of allegiance). Huzoor (as) informed people that he would be staying in Ludhiana until 25 March. On 23 March 1889 Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) accepted the first Bai‘at in Ludhiana, at the house of Hazrat Sufi Ahmad Jan in Muhalla Jadid. The Companions (ra) were called in as Huzoor (as) desired. Hazrat Hakim Maulvi Nuruddin (ra) was called in first. Then were called Mir Abbas Ali, Hazrat Mian Muhammad Husain Moradabadi (ra) and Hazrat Mian Abdullah Sanauri (ra). One or two more were thus called in as named by Huzoor (as), after which Hazrat Sheikh Hamid Ali (ra) was told to admit them one by one. At the beginning, the Bai‘at was taken of each person in private, but afterwards people entered the Bai‘at even in groups.
