Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) decided to publish a magazine entitled, The Review of Religions for the Western world and placed an advertisement on 15 January 1901. The Review of Religions started in English, from January 1902, under the editorship of Maulvi Muhammad Ali and then in Urdu, from March 1902.

Russia’s famous philosopher and writer Count Leo Tolstoy was sent a copy through Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Sadiq (ra). He replied saying:

“I am most thankful to you for sending me this and am also grateful for your letter. Yours Sincerely, Tolstoy, from Russia. 5th June 1903”.

In the second year of the First Khilafat, Hazrat Maulvi Sher Ali (ra) was appointed the Editor of the journal on 1 June 1909. In December 1951, The Review of Religions was revived under the editorship of Sufi Mati-ur-Rahman.During the Khilafat of Hazrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad (ra), The Review of Religions continued its progress. As in the past, it maintained its tradition of publishing the addresses, messages and instructions of the Khalifa and other important articles. During the time of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (ra), the standard and quality of The Review of Religions were priorities.

Today, under the guideship of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aa), the English edition of this magazine is being printed from UK, Canada, and India. Moreover, now it is also printed quarterly in French, German, and Spanish language.

Its website www.reviewofreligions.org was launched in January 2010.
